Abstract
The research of synthesis of the SnO2/CoO composites as photocatalyst to degrade remazol yellow FG has been done. The photodegradation process of remazol yellow FG was carried out with several variable including the effect of time and the initial concentration of the dye and conditions under pHpzc. Composites were made with mass ratio of SnO2 to CoO (1:0.2), (1:0.4) and (1:0.6) were characterized used XRD, SEM and UV-Vis DRS instruments. SnO2/CoO (1:0.6) composite has been chosen as photocatalyst to degrade remazol yellow FG. The XRD characterization results of the SnO2/CoO composite showed the formation of a typical peak at 2θ around 33o. Energy band gap value of the SnO2/CoO composite (1:0.6) obtained from the UV-Vis DRS characterization is 2.16 eV. Morphological character of SnO2/CoO (1:0.6) composite characterized using SEM showed a around shape with an uneven surface and pores formed caused dopant CoO aggregation on the SnO2 surface with the elements composition of Sn (61.24%), O (24.67%) and Co (14.09%). The optimum conditions for photodegradation were obtained at a contact time of 180 minutes at pH 4 with the percent effectiveness of reducing the concentration of 66.78%. Meanwhile, for the effect of the initial concentration of the dye, the percent effectiveness of the largest concentration reduction at a concentration of 10 ppm, which is 74.41%. The results showed that the SnO2/CoO composite was able to degrade the remazol yellow FG.
