Abstract

HIV/AIDS is not only decreases physical quality, but also affects mental health. People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) in their treatment are at risk of feeling depressed because they have to undergo lifelong treatment, dealing with social conditions, families who are not supportive, and other factors. Depression in PLHIV is twice as high as the general population. This study aims to determine the factors that influence the incidents of depression in PLHIV on CST Services in Palembang City. The study population is PLHIV on CST Services in Palembang City with a sample of 235 respondents selected using purposive sampling techniques. The design study of this research is cross-sectional. Data collection was conducted by interview using a questionnaire. Data was analysis for univariat, bivariat and multivariat analysis. 30.2% of respondents experience depression. The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between marital status and depression (p-value = 0.001). The results of multivariate analysis showed that marital status was related to depression after being controlled by gender. Unmarried respondents were 0.370 times less likely to experience depression than respondents who were married after being controlled by gender variables ranging from 0.192 to 0.713. Early detection of depression in PLHIV is needed to improve the success of treatment and the quality of life of PLHIV. Regular depression screening should be carried out so that it can be thoroughly evaluated and help with psychiatric treatment can be provided. Depression treatment should be carried out in an integrated manner in CST Services. Depression screening should be more focused on PLHIV who are married. Counseling should not only focus on PLHIV but should also reach out to PLHIV families.   Keywords: Depression, PLHIV, Marital Status
