Abstract

Background: Brain tumors account for about 85-90% of all cancers of the central nervous system. The incidence of brain tumors is 10-17 per 100.000 per person for intracranial tumors and 1-2 per 100.000 per person for intraspinal tumors. Brain tumors have slightly different characteristics from tumors that grow elsewhere. There is no premalignant or in situ stage. For example, benign glial tumors can infiltrate large areas of the brain, causing serious clinical deficits that are irreversible and lead to a poor prognosis. According to GLOBOCAN data, there were 1,6% new cases of brain tumors from all cancers worlswide, new cases of brain tumors in the Asian region is 1,8%, new cases of brain tumors in Indonesia is 1,5%. The death rate for brain tumors worldwide is 241,037 (2.5%), the death rate for brain tumors in the Asian region is 129,483 (2.4%), while the death rate from brain tumors in Indonesia is 4,229 (2%) according to the Global Observatory Cancer, 2018) . Brain tumors account for 20% of all pediatric tumors. This study was conducted to determine the association between the clinicopathological grade of brain tumors at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: This type of research is cross-sectional observational analytic using medical record data at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Result: A total of 156 patients with brain tumors in 2015-2019. The most common type of brain tumor is meningioma (38,5%) with the group at the age of 19-45 year, the majority is women and located at supratentorial. There is a relationship between age and the histopathological degree of brain tumors (P value 0,010) and a relationship between gender of brain tumors (P value 0,001). There is no relationship between tumor location and histopathological degree of brain tumors (P value 0,515). Conclusion: The most brain tumors type are meningioma, many are found at the age of 19-45 years, the majority is women and are located in the supratentorial. Key word: Clinicopathological factors, brain tumors, histopathological grade.
