Abstract
One type of lightweight concrete is foam concrete. Foam concrete is the result of a mixture of cement, fine aggregates, water and foaming agents which are bound to one another. The use of cement in the manufacture of foam concrete become an economic and environmental concern. One of the potential materials as a substitute for cement is a waste of palm oil fuel ash (POFA). POFA as a pozzolanic material has high levels of silica dioxide (SiO2) so that it can increase the compressive strength of concrete. In addition, curing with high temperature can accelerate the strength of concrete. Therefore, this study focuses on the use of palm oil fuel ash to increase the compressive strength of concrete and determine the optimum temperature for concrete treatment. Palm oil fuel ash used in this study was 10% by weight of cement. The variations of curing temperature were applied at 60°C, 70°C, 80°C, and room temperature as a control. The results showed that concrete with 10% POFA substitution produced higher compressive strength. Concrete with treatment at a temperature of 80°C produces concrete with the highest initial compressive strength of 9,67 MPa, but the long-term compressive strength is low. The highest compressive strength at the age of 28 is achieved by concrete with treatment at a temperature of 60°C, with a compressive strength of 11,20 MPa. It can be concluded that the optimum treatment temperature is at 60°C because at this temperature the initial strength of concrete is quickly achieved without reducing its strength at the age of 28 days.
