Abstract

The study was conducted on the effect of w/b on SCC concrete with palm oil fuel ash (POFA). Variations of W/B used in the compositions of SCC were 0.325, 0.350, and 0.375. Meanwhile, the POFA used is 10% of cement total. The results showed that the variation of w/b and the use of POFA affected the workability of the concrete, that could be seen from the test of fresh concrete in the form of slump flow, V-funnel, and L-box, which showed that the higher the value of W/B, the greater the slump diameter, Test time of the funnel was got shorter and the H2/H1 ratio was got bigger. Meanwhile, the effect of POFA on the compositions of SCC was that became thicker due to the fine grains of POFA and caused more water absorption so that the results of the slump flow test and the ratio of H2/H1 could be smaller than SCC without POFA and the V-funnel could take longer. In addition, w/b also affected the compressive strength and density of concrete, the smaller the value of w/b, the higher the compressive strength, and the greater the density of the concrete. The use of POFA as a partial substitute for cement also affected the compressive strength and density produced. The highest compressive strength value was obtained when the SCC concrete used POFA at w/b 0.325 of 36.78 MPa at the age of 28 days but the density decreased when used POFA.
