Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM) is a progressive chronic metabolic disease characterized by relative insulin deficiency and insulin resistance. One of the most commonly used therapies for T2DM patients is glimepiride. The use of glimepiride drugs has increased in its use, this is due to the advantages of this drug, namely long half-life, stronger effects, good postprandial insulin response, mild side effects and rarely cause hypoglycemia or other serious side effects, fast onset of action, perfect drug absorption, longer duration of action, the price is affordable and its practical use is the dose once a day. This study was to determine the pattern of glimepiride use in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: Descriptive research in the form of a study of drug use patterns. This study was conducted for 1 month using medical record data of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang for the period of 1 June 2019 - 31 June 2020 who met the inclusion criteria. There were 135 medical record data that met the inclusion criteria. The research data were processed using SPSS v25. Results: The prevalence of glimepiride drug use was (22.2%) with the highest prevalence in women (60%), age 41-60 years (46.7%), and a history of dyslipidemia (43.3%). In patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, the most frequent dose of glimepiride was 2 mg / day (40%) with the highest frequency of 1 time / day (96.7%), and the duration of offering > 1 week (83.3%). Most of the T2DM patient characters were women (60.7%) with the age group 41 - 60 years (51.9%), and most of them worked as housewives (43.7%). The most frequent interactions were those that were synergistic (62%). Conclusion: The prevalence of the use of the drug glimepiride is quite high in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with the most administration pattern at a dose of 2 mg given in a single dose.
