Abstract

This research dicusses "The Role of Ulama in Instilling the Value of Inter-Religious Tolerance towards Santri in Darul A'mal Islamic Boarding School, Metro Lampung City". The problem in this study is about how the role of ulama in instilling the value of tolerance between religious people towards students and obstacles in carrying out their role. The method used is qualitative descriptive, purposive determination of informants. Data collection techniques are interviews, observation, and documentation. This research uses role theory. The results of this study indicate that the expectation that arises from the role of ulama to students is a natural thing, because the scholars want what they have taught about interfaith tolerance to these students can be applied directly in their daily lives. In addition to teaching the students, the ulama themselves certainly need to apply the behavior they live in everyday, it aims to be the basis for this ulama to act as a teacher in the pesantren. There are also obstacles in carrying out his role as a cleric such as in teaching the lack of facilities provided by the pesantren and the diversity of character of the students, but to overcome these obstacles the scholars are able to overcome them well because these obstacles will always appear every year.
