Abstract
Cervical cancer in Padang City, West Sumatra is increasing every year with a prevalence rate exceeding the national rate. Puskesmas Pagambiran Padang City is the second highest health center for cervical cancer, but the lowest IVA test is 1.45%. This study aims to determine the behavior of early detection of cervical cancer using the IVA method in the working area of Puskesmas Pagambiran, Padang City, West Sumatra. This research is a qualitative descriptive analytic study using in-depth interview method. There were 38 informants who were taken using purposive sampling method which consisted of 10 main informants aged 30-50 years old, 10 key informants from the mother's husband, 10 key informants from the mother's female friends, and 8 key expert informants, namely the Head of Puskesmas Pagambiran, the person in charge. VIA Program, Health Promotion Workers and 5 Village Midwives. Data validation was done by triangulating sources, methods and data. Analyzed with content analysis, presented in narrative form and interpreted.. The results showed that the early detection behavior of cervical cancer using the IVA method in the working area of the Puskesmas Pagambiran for mothers, the program achievements were still far below what was targeted by the Padang city health office. Where only 3 out of 20 respondent mothers had early detection of cervical cancer and the rest had never detected cervical cancer at all, 2 of them used the IVA method and the other used the pap smear method. Factors that influence the low behavior of mothers in the IVA test include informants' lack of knowledge, where 6-8 mothers do not know about cervical cancer and IVA. In addition, more than half of the mother informants also felt afraid of being examined, embarrassed, and busy working. A small proportion of mothers also said that access to health care centers was difficult both in terms of costs and transportation, admitted they did not get information from health workers, felt they had no symptoms, were afraid of the results and lacked support from their closest people because informants rarely even discussed IVA. It is hoped that the health personnel of Puskesmas Pagambiran will improve the quality of health services regarding the IVA test with a mobile health center system so that people who are located in remote villages have access to IVA tests.
