Abstract
In a reinforced concrete structure failure often occurs in beam and column joints due to the distribution of lateral loads. The beam-column connection in a structure has an important role in the performance of the structure, so it requires loading analysis, including cyclic loads. This study aims to analyze the performance ofexterior beam-column joint structures lightweight concrete against a combination of constant compressive axial load and lateral cyclic static by using numerical programs. This research method is to model experimental exterior beam-column joint specimens with normal concrete material which is given a combination of constant axial load and lateral cyclic static based on the finite element method (FEM) with the ANSYS program. The hysteresis curve of normal concrete numerical modeling is compared with the hysteretic curve of the test results. The difference in lateral forces on the modeling against the test results is still below the tolerance limit. Furthermore, the normal concrete numerical model is compared with thenumerical model lightweight concrete. The results of the study of normal andexterior beam-column joint models were lightweight concrete hysteresis curve, maximum story drift achieved, maximum load and displacement, ductility, stiffness, and strength. The ductility value is 2,695 for normal concrete and 2,515 for lightweight concrete, so it is included in thecategory moderate ductility demand based on FEMA 356. The results show that the performance of exterior beam-column joints for lightweight concrete is almost like normal concrete.
