Abstract
Effect of stack temperature and back pressure on the performance of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) using Pt/C and CoFe/N-C catalysts has been done. Two electrodes were prepared using the spraying method, consisting of an anode containing a Pt/C catalyst and a cathode containing a CoFe/N-C catalyst. The electrodes were then characterized using the Cyclic Voltammerty (CV) method to determine the active surface area of the catalyst (Electrochemical Surface Area/ ECSA). The results of CV testing obtained an ECSA value of 94.336 cm2/g for electrodes with Pt/C catalyst and 43.806 cm2/g for electrodes with CoFe/N-C catalyst. In addition, the electrical conductivity of the electrodes were analyzed using the Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) method. The value of the electrical conductivity of the electrode with a Pt/C catalyst was obtained at 0.00419 S/cm and the electrode with a CoFe/N-C catalyst was 0.002315 S/cm. Effect of temperature stack on the PEMFC performance based on I-V and I-P performance curves, obtained the best operating temperature is at 50oC with a maximum power density of 2.33208 mW/cm2 and a current density of 3.16 mA/cm2. Meanwhile, the effect of back pressure based on the I-V performance and I-P performance curves shows that the optimum back pressure is at 25 psi with highest power density of 2.2176 mW/cm2 and a current density of 3.36 mA /cm2.
