Abstract
Swimming pool water contains chemicals such as chlorine and chlorine which are used to clean swimming pool water, but if the water disinfectant is not given according to the dosage, it can produce high or low residual free chlorine. Irritant contact dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin caused by prolonged contact with chemicals. This study aims to analyze the relationship between residual free chlorine and symptoms of irritant contact dermatitis in swimming pool users at Fantasy Island Palembang. This research is an analytic study with cross sectional method. The population of respondents used is all daily visitors who are in the Fantasy Island Palembang swimming pool. The sample of the research was 84 swimming pool users. They were taken by simpel random sampling technique. Data analysis techniques used univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis. Based on the results of the study, it was found that as many as (51.7%) had symptoms of irritant contact dermatitis. The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between residual free chlorine levels (p-value =0,000), turbidity (p-value =0,000), gender (p-value =0.003), swimming time (p-value = 0.011) with symptoms of irritant contact dermatitis at pool users. There is no significant relationship between age (p-value= 0.130) with symptoms of irritant contact dermatitis in swimming pool users. The adjusted risk value of the remaining free clenbuterol variable is OR = 29,916 in a swimming pool with symptoms of irritant contact dermatitis after controlled variable confounding i.e. gender and length of swimming. Swimming pool managers should carry our the recommended chlorine offerings and carry out checks 3 times a day, for pool users it is bette if swimming and contact with the air is not too long and use them in swimwear.
