Abstract

According to data from the Health Office of Ogan Ilir, there are 357 cases in 2016 with the highest incidence of ARI in children under five, and the highest number was at Simpang Timbangan health centers with 149 cases. The physical component of the home environment is one of the important factors has a big impact on ARI disease in children under five. This study aims to uniquely determine how the relationship between the physical condition of the home environment and the incidence of ARI in toddlers in Timbangan village , North Of Indralaya district. Analytical survey research design with cross sectional approach with a sample of 84 toddlers aged 0-5 years using cluster random sampling technique. Research instruments used are questionnaires, observation, guidelines, rollmeter, luxmeter, hygrometer, and stationary with bivariate analysis using the test chi-square and multivariate analysis using logistic regression. The results showed that there was no relationship between the physical condition of the home environment and the incidence of ARI in children under five ( house ventilation p=0,094, house lighting p=0,138, house humidity p=1,000, room occupancy density p=1,000) and maternal education p=0,851 , and the variable with the presence of smokers in the house was the only variable that was also the most dominant variable with the incidence of ARI in children under five. The government and health agencies need to improve health education and sanitation programs for the home environment and the dangers of smoking for themselves and those around them.
