Abstract

Background: Drug usage for gastritis cases needs serious attention because there are many drugs prescribed. The improper use may cause side effects, so drugs needs to be used rationally, such as using the drug with proper dosage, frequency, duration of usage, and proper drugs choices to be use as combination or as individual. This research is initiated to identify the rationality of omeprazole usage for gastritis case of inpatient care in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Methods: This research is a descriptive observational study, using secondary data from medical records. The sample are medical record of gastritis patient of inpatient care in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin period January 2017-June 2018 that fulfilled inclusive and exclusive criterias by using total sampling. Results: From 178 samples, the greatest proportion was found in age of 46-65 years (44.9%); women (51.7%); post-hemorrhagic anemia was the greatest comorbidities (46.6%). Most omeprazole usage uses the dose of 20-40 mg (100%), frequency 1 x 40 mg (51.7%), and duration of usage for 1-4 weeks (76.4%). Omeprazole was usually combined with other drugs. Most of the combination has no drug interaction (89.99%), with the most frequent combination was with sucralfate (15.2%); antagonist interaction (6.61%) was frequently combined with midazolam (23.81%); and synergist interaction (3.51%) was frequently combined with dexamethasone (44.3%). Conclusions: Omeprazole usage for gastritis case of inpatient care RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin has been suitable with the principle of rasionality and should be developed.
