Abstract
Acid mine drainage is the main waste generated from coal mining activities both at the extraction and processing stages. Apart from low pH, acid mine drainage also contains heavy metal ions such as Cu, Si, Mg, Al, Mn, Fe and others. In fixing the problem of acid mine drainage, several methods are needed, one of which is the use of bottom ash with the aeration method. The aeration method functions to drain air bubbles into acid mine drainage, in order to accelerate the mixing of bottom ash and acid mine drainage. Bottom ash can be used to raise the pH of acid mine water because it contains CaO and MgO. Trial aeration method of bottom ash to acid mine drainage treatment using these tools performed for 4 hours using acid mine water to 60 liters and bottom ash as much as 1 kg per hour, the total bottom ash is used as much as 4 kg. Sampling to determine the increase and decrease of samples in acid mine drainage is carried out every 10 minutes. After the experiment, there was an increase in the pH of each additional mass of bottom ash coal and aeration time. Starting from the increase, from an initial pH of 2.2 to 6.3. The percentage increase in the pH of acid mine drainage is 186.4%. The decrease occurred in TDS and EC, the initial TDS value was 2064 mg/L to 1067 mg/L, the percentage decrease in TDS was 48.30%, and the initial EC value was 3.972 mS/cm to 2.526 mS/cm, the percentage decrease in EC was 36.40 %. Then the decrease also occurred in levels of Fe metal and Mn metal, the initial content of Fe metal was 8.29 mg/L to 4.0 mg/L, the percentage reduction in Fe metal content was 51.75%, and the initial content of Mn metal was 6.13 mg/L to 2.2 mg/L, the percentage reduction in Mn metal content was 64.11%.
