Abstract

The household economy resilience of Ume Talang peasants in Lebung Gajah Village has different variations, depending on the capital and strategies used by Ume Talang peasants. The object of this research is the household Ume Talang peasants in Lebung Gajah Village, Tulung Selapan District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. This research aims to examine in depth the capital and strategies used by Ume Talang peasants in Lebung Gajah Village that they have resilience against the prohibition of managing forests and land by burning. This study uses the concept of economic resilience from Buheji, the concept of capital from Ellis and the concept of strategy from Scoones. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with the main informant being the Ume Talang peasants, as well as the supporting informants are the village head who knows about Ume Talang and the people in Lebung Gajah Village who know about Ume Talang. The data collection techniques used in this study were in-depth interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this study can be seen that the capital owned by Ume Talang peasants in Lebung Gajah Village includes natural resource capital from the management and productivity of arable land, human capital that comes from household members who work to help, social capital comes from kinship and social networks, and financial capital comes from debt, loans and selling land. The variations in the capital owned by peasants also form different strategies between each peasants household. The strategy used is to change the yield of arable land, change the type of livelihood, and increase the type of livelihood Keywords: Resilience, Capital, Strategy, Peasant, Ume Talang.
