Abstract
Background: Based on the results of Riskesdas 2018, only 2.8% of the population aged over 3 years brushed their teeth properly. This can stunt the child's growth and lead to long-term consequences. Early preventive action is needed to prevent it. One of the activities that can be done is the supervised toothbrushing program in schools which can create good habits for elementary students to brush their teeth in the right way and frequency. Objective: To get a stronger conclusion regarding the effectiveness of supervised toothbrushing activities in schools on caries incidence in elementary school children after seeing the strength and weakness and minimize the bias of each research journal reviewed. Methods: This research is a systematic literature review with qualitative analysis. The journal databases used were PubMed and Google Scholar, and the literature used were English journals in the last 10 years. The obtained journals were selected then proceeded with bias analysis and data extraction. Results: The qualitative analysis conducted in ten journals showed significant and consistent positive results with a fairly high level of confidence that the caries incidence of elementary school children in schools with supervised toothbrushing activities was lower than schools without supervised toothbrushing activities. Conclusion: The caries prevalence of elementary school children in areas with low socioeconomic level is still high. Tooth brushing activities at school was proven effective in reducing the incidence of caries in elementary school children (n = 7). The tooth brushing method used varies with soft bristles, 1450 ppm fluoride toothpaste for 2 minutes.
