Abstract
Tahongai leaves (Kleinhovia hospita Linn.) had been known to contain alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, and tannins. Tahongai bark has cytotoxic activity so this study aims to determine the cytotoxic activity of tahongai leaves using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, residue ethanol, ethanol 96%, and water extracts of tahongai leaves using the BSLT method. Cytotoxic test of each extract was performed using BSLT method using various concentration of 31.25; 62.5; 125; 250; and 500 while 1000 ppm concentration for n-hexane and water extract and 2000, 4000, and 8000 ppm concentration for n-hexane extract. The value of LC50 of each extracts were analyzed using probit analysis program with linear regression respectively 2736.234; 212.808; 115.369; 49.36; and 574.776 μg/mL. Ethanol 96% extract had the best cytotoxic activity with LC50 value 49.36 μg/mL belonging to medium toxic level. Ethyl acetate extract has the best characterization result. Statistical analysis with two way ANOVA showed extract and concentration had significant effect on mortality percentage.
