Abstract
Catfish that live in rivers can be contaminated with heavy metals such as copper (Cu), which comes from activities in their surroundings, such as industrial waste, household waste, agricultural and plantation activities, as well as activities at shipyards in river flow. Catfish can live freely or be cultivated using floating net cages for consumption and sale. Farmed catfish are susceptible to copper contamination and if consumed it will be harmful to health, such as causing kidney, liver problems, hemolysis (cell rupture), neutrophysis, seizures, and eventually death. Like fish in general which are rich in protein, catfish certainly have benefits in the body, so it is important to analyze their safety. The purpose of this study was to assess the amount of health risk due to consuming copper-contaminated catfish from the river where it is cultivated. This research is a descriptive study using environmental health risk analysis (ARKL) as its method. The research respondents were 113 people with 5 samples of catfish taken from the river where they were cultivated. Copper heavy metal analysis was performed using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) method. Based on the results of the study, the largest concentration of copper in catfish was 2.41 mg/kg. The results of the analysis show that the people of Ulak Jermun Village do not have real-time non-carcinogenic health risks. The results of the analysis on real-time carcinogenic exposure showed that 34.5% or 39 of 113 respondents had ECR values> 10-4 and could be said to be at risk for carcinogenic diseases. People are advised to consume catfish with recommended portion weight and consume lots of foods with high fiber content.
