Abstract

This is a study on the Performance Analysis of The Bricks Industry in Banyuasin Regency. The problem of this study is formulated as follows: How is the performance of the brick industry viewed from the aspects of its value-added, efficiency, and productivity of the workforce, and the overall performance of the existing brick industry in Banyuasin Regency. The study is conducted within the brick industry in Banyuasin Regency with a case study of Talang Kelapa. This industry is chosen because the author has conducted an observation and concluded that the magnitude of brick-making industry in Banyuasin Regency is relatively large and its potential can be further developed. According to the data obtained from the Department of Industry and Trade of South Sumatra, there are 139 business units. By taking 20 percent of the total population the author obtains a sample of 21 respondents. The result of this study reveals that: the average valueadded of brick industry in Banyuasin Regency amounts to Rp 6,099,881, the average efficiency is 1.2%, and the average productivity is 33832.5. On the basis of its value-added, efficiency, and labor productivity, it can be concluded that the performance of the brick industry in Banyuasin Regency has a positive tendency. Therefore, it is expected that the brick manufacturers keep increasing their creativity and innovation so as to provide maximum satisfaction to consumers and increase their sales.
