Abstract

The objective of this research was to investigate and analyze the influence of Foreign Direct Investment and Imports on Inflation in ASEAN-5 Countries in the period of 1990-2010. The data used in this study were the secondary data in the period of 2003-2012 from the publication of World Bank. The method of analysis was a multiple regression on panel data with the fixed effects model. The results of this study showed that individually Foreign Direct Investment had no statistically significant effect on inflation in ASEAN-5 countries. Based on the results of similar calculation process, individually imports had a statistically significant positive effect on inflation in ASEAN-5 countries. It is expected that next researchers would extend the observation period and improve the research methods particularly with regard to foreign direct investment (FDI) in order to obtain more detailed and in-depth results. Besides, the govemments of ASEAN-5 countries would formulate prudent policies related to imports and avoid the dependence on imported goods as it was proven to increase inflation.
