Abstract

The objective of this study is to reveal and analyze the development of added value, labor productivity and economic efficiency of Indonesian footwear industry during the period of 2001-2010. The data used in this study are secondary data, namely the data of output value, intermediate cost, added value and total employment during the year of observation. The results of the study show that the growth of added value created by the footwear industry has increased , but the growth of the average added value per year is only 10.55 percent, which is less than the growth of the average cost of intermediate per year, which is 11.82 percent. The growth of labor productivity of Indonesian footwear industiy has decreased into an average growth of 11.03 per cent per year. The level of economic efficiency of Indonesian footwear industry is relatively low because intermediate costs incurred are greater than the added value generated, which makes the average growth rate of efficiency per year amounts to 4.25 percent only.
