Abstract
Manufacturing and performance test of the Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) based on Pd / C and Pt / C catalysts has been carried out. MEA was made using the Catalyst Coated Membrane (CCM) method. Catalyst coating was carried out by spraying the catalyst directly onto the membrane (MEA 1) and coating the catalyst using capton (MEA 2). MEA was characterized using the Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) method to measure the value of the Electrochemical Surface Area (ECSA) and the Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) method to measure the conductivity value. The MEA performance test is carried out by measuring the OCV value, the optimum power density and the durability of the MEA for long usage. MEA 1 has ECSA values and conductivity of 987.095 cm2/g and 12.125 x 10-3 S/cm, while MEA 2 is 2.437 cm2/g and 0.2543 S/cm. The performance test results show that MEA 1 has an OCV of 0.6 V and an optimum power density value of 0.039 mW/cm2. Meanwhile, MEA 2 has an OCV of 0.508 V and a maximum power density of 0.0197 mW/cm2. In the 6 hour test time, MEA 1 experienced a voltage drop of 0.1 V, while MEA 2 decreased by 0.025 V.
