Abstract

This research is a descriptive research that aims to obtain a description of the problem solving ability of students on the material of linear equations of one variable with the application of discovery learning method. This research was conducted in SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya Utara with 22 subjects from grade VII. A selected at random. The data collection technique used is a written test that consists of five problem-solving questions. The results showed that the problem solving ability of students less category, due to various factors one of them is less interest of students in reading questions. The details of students who have problem-solving abilities are from 22 students, 7 students are categorized enough, 7 students are less category and 8 students very less category. The aspects of understanding the problem have the highest aspect of 42.42%, the appearance of the planning aspect is 33.33%, the aspect of completion of the settlement plan is 33.18%, and the checking aspect has the lowest occurrence of 4.54% .
