Abstract
Catfish (Pangasius sp.) is one of freshwater fish consumption, which is potentially cultivated in swamp area. Liming process needed to increase pH water and soil of ponds in swamp area. The quality of lime, mainly alternative lime depend on calcination proces. The aims of this research was to determine the best temperature and time of calcination, to produce the best quality of golden apple snail shell lime and its aplication to liming of fish ponds in swamp area. This research was conducted from September to December 2020 at the Laboratory of Aquaculture Experimental Pond, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This research used Factorial Completely Randomized Design with two factors that are calcination temperature (S) with 3 treatments (S1 : 700oC, S2 : 800oC dan S3 : 900oC) and different time lenght of calcination (W) with 3 treatments (W1 : 1 hour, W2 : 2 hour dan W3 : 3 hour) with three replications. Dose of golden apple snail shell lime is 7000 kg/ha. The parameters observed included the quality of lime, water and soil pH, survival and absolute growth of catfish (Pangasius sp.). The results of this study showed that the best treatment was S3W3 (calcination at a temperature of 900oC at 3 hour), which was able to increase the pH of swamp water from 3.67 to 7.73 and soil pH from 3.4 to 8.1 and produce 100% of survival rate of fish, absolute growth of weight 12.74 g, length of 5.63 cm and and feed efficiency 90.35%.
