Abstract

Basic counseling skills are one of the initial capital for guidance and counseling students as prospective counselors to be able to develop their work skills, especially in providing counseling services. This study aims to determine the understanding of basic counseling skills in students of the 2019 Guidance Counseling Study Program FKIP Sriwijaya University. This research is quantitative descriptive. The method used in this study is a survey method with an instrument in the form of multiple-choice questions in the form of a google form. The subjects involved in the research were students of guidance and counseling class 2019 class Palembang and Indralaya as many as 80 students with sampling using the saturated sample technique. Data analysis using the percentage formula. The result of this study is that the understanding of the basic skills of counseling students both Indralaya and Palembang is more dominant in the good category. Judging from the data from 80 students there are 29 (36.25%) very good categories, 31 (38.75%), good categories quite good category 12 (15%), not good category by 3 (3.75) and very bad category by 5 (6.25%). And for the indicator of basic counseling skills that most students answered correctly were silent skills with the percentage of correct answers as much as 79.5%. so based on this it can be said that the 2019 batch of students can take good counseling basic skills courses and have a good understanding of basic counseling skills.
