Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the economic inequality among the regions in the province of South Sumatra and to investigate the relationship between the economic growth and economic inequality in the province of South Sumatra. Williamson index and Theil entropy index were used to analyze the economic inequality; and the Pearson correlation was used to determine the relationship between the economic growth and inequality among the regions, where this correlation measure was used to test the Kuznets hypothesis. The results showed that the inequality in the South Sumatra province from 2003 to 2012 was categorized as low, and there was a relationship between the economic growth and economic inequality, which proved that the Kuznets hypothesis could be applied to the province of South Sumatra
