Abstract

ABSTRACT The grounding system plays a very important role in the protection system. The grounding system functions to remove excess current into the ground when there is a disturbance using a tool in the form of a grounding system electrode that is implanted into the ground. There are many ways to reduce the resistance of the grounding system. The value of ground resistance is influenced by various factors, namely soil type resistance, water content, or moisture contained in the soil and also temperature. Of these influences, the most dominant is soil moisture. Because the soil should be moist so that the ground resistance is stable and in low conditions. The smaller the value of the ground resistance, the fault current in the system can quickly spread evenly into the ground. . The method used to reduce ground resistance in this study is to compare groups of grounding electrodes wrapped in charcoal briquettes with different electrode lengths and briquette thicknesses. In this study, to measure the resistance of the grounding system using the three-point method. The results of this study indicate that the charcoal briquette electrode which has a length of 1 m has a lower ground resistance value with the lowest ground resistance value of 180 when compared to the charcoal briquette electrode which has a length of 0.5 m with the lowest ground resistance value of 260 .
