Abstract
Medication Compliance is an activity in which patients comply with their medication on the basis of self-awareness. when someone is declared infected with HIV, most of them will seek treatment in health services, especially in VCT services. There are many factors that affect the level of medication adherence, and one of them can be seen from the side effects of drugs. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research on other factors that affect the level of adherence to treatment. This study aims to analyze the determinants of adherence to treatment in PLWHA in Palembang City. This research uses descriptive analytic with cross sectional study approach. The number of samples in this study were 244 people obtained by using purposive sampling technique. Data collection was obtained using a questionnaire on the characteristics of respondents, family support, level of adherence to treatment, knowledge of ARVs, and health service facilities. The results of the analysis found that most of the respondents had a medication adherence level of 76.6%. Bivariate analysis in this study found that there was a relationship between the level of medication adherence and drug side effects (p-value = 0.006) with a PR value = 3.187 (1.423-7.136) and the results of Multivariate Analysis in this study found that the level of treatment adherence was significantly related with drug side effects variable (p-value = 0.010) with PR value = 2,922 (1,292-6,610), and has two counfonding variables, namely knowledge of ARV and health care facilities. It can be concluded that the factor that affects the level of adherence to treatment is drug side effects. To reduce the risk of side effects of drugs that can affect the level of adherence to treatment, it is expected for PLWHA to always have good and open communication with health workers about what side effects of drugs they experience during ARV therapy and ask how to deal with the side effects of these drugs health while undergoing ARV therapy.
