Abstract

Media memiliki kekuatan untuk menciptakan stereotype tentang sesuatu hal sehingga khalayak akan memandang bahwa yang digambarkan oleh media merupakan sesuatu yang benar dan normal. Salah satu bentuk yang ditawarkan oleh media untuk menciptakan pandangan tersebut ialah film. Penelitian ini menggunakan film Koboy Kampus sebagai objek penelitian yang menyuguhkan imaji maskulinitas pada era 1990-an. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui representasi maskulinitas pada film Koboy Kampus karya Pidi Baiq. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan menggunakan teori maskulinitas dari Beynon yang menjelaskan tiga dimensi, di antaranya macho, kekerasan, dan hooliganism. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan analisis dan studi pustaka. Analisis dilakukan dengan berpedoman pada konsep semiotika Roland Barthes yang membongkar tanda dengan tiga tahapan, yaitu denotasi, konotasi, mitos. Hasil dari penelitian ini ialah film Koboy Kampus merepresentasikan sosok maskulin era 1990-an sejalan dengan teori maskulin dari Beynon.
