Abstract

The turning machining process is a machining process that use single point cutting tool. Several factors that influence of the wear tool are, cutting speed, high temperature etc. Tool wear is an event of material or atom detachment from the material surface due to plastic deformation and mechanical force. Wear on the cutting tool will cause changes in the shape of the workpiece so that the geometry and quality of the surface of the material will decrease. Tool wear is divided into 2, namely edge wear flank wear and crater wear. Flank wear is caused by friction between the wing side of the tool and the workpiece occurs due to chisel particles attached to the workpiece against a periodically cut surface, crater wear which occurs in the contact area of the chisel and the place chips on the tool tip. In this study, several stages were carried out aimed at making the research well and smoothly starting from the preparation, data collection, data processing, and analysis of research results. In this study the simulation uses software (software) to simplify analyzing things or vibrations on the wear of WC + CO carbide tools when the lathe machining process operates, using TiAlN coating. Ti6Al4V titanium alloy is one of the materials that is very difficult to do in the machining process, this titanium is widely used in the military, aircraft, medical and automotive industries because it has good corrosion resistance, low thermal conductivity and a good strength to load ratio weight. Titanium alloy has a modulus of elasticity which is low when compared to steel, which tends to be elastic. This type of material is very difficult to do in the machining process, because the chips produced in the machining process are more likely to stick to the tool and react chemically during high temperatures, this condition greatly affects the surface, tool life and results in wear on chiselTiAlN coating is a single-layer coating. Because the use of this coating tool will be able to increase the age of the tool more, the TiAlN layer is a very good layer compared to using Altin coating, because TiAlN coating is able to maintain high cutting temperatures. Then the tool wear rate is lower than Altin coating. The results of the analysis in this study will compare the results of the FEM simulation using DEFORM Integrated-2D software with the results of the journal as a reference. Based on data from the FEM simulation results obtained the wear value of the tool during the titanium turning process Ti6Al4V with a cutting speed parameter of 120 m / min and the consumption of 0.1 mm / rev using WC + CO type carbide tool resulting in a maximum wear value of 16.3 mm / sec on tools that do not use coatings and the maximum tool wear value is 12.7 mm / sec with tools using TiAlN coating, then the value of tool wear using TiAlN coating is higher to increase cutting tool life compared to tools that do not use coating. Then the value obtained from the FEM simulation for temperature on the cutting tool when the machining process takes place is 298ºC on the tool that does not use coating and for the temperature value of the cutting tool using TiAlN coating is 279ºC.
