Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine the concentration of heavy metal (Iron) in two important fish consumption species, Sepat Siam fish (Trichogaster pectoralis), Betok fish (Anabas testudineus), water and sedi- ment taken from wastewater pond of rubber factory at Keramasan Villages, Kertapati Districts, in Palembang City in the periods from March to June, 2013. This heavy metal was determined by means of AA-7000 SHI- MADZU Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The concentration of heavy metal Fe in Sepat Siam fish, Be- tok fish, water and sediment were in the order: (2.70 mg/kg, 2.63 mg/kg, 1.78 mg/l and 9353.1 mg/kg). The finding that Fe metal accumulations level exceeded BPOM RI recommended limit in fish or food, indicated that the fish caught within the pond, might not be fit for human consumption. Fe had higher concentration in surface water than recommended benchmarks of water quality issued by the government of south Sumatera province, an indication of risk to human health.
