Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled "Adaptation of Farmer Community to the Existence of Coal Mining in Muara Lawai Village, East Merapi District, Lahat Regency". The purpose of this study was to determine the adaptation of farmer community to the existence of coal mines in Muara Lawai Village, East Merapi District, Lahat Regency. The theory used in this research is the Adaptation Theory of John Bennett. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative research method. Determination of informants in this study using a purposive technique. The informants in this study amounted to 11 informants consisting of 10 main informants and 1 supporting informant. Types and sources of data obtained through primary data and secondary data with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews and documentation. The data collected was then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman analysis model consisting of data condentation, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that there are two forms of adaptation by farmer community to the existence of coal mines in Muara Lawai Village, namely social adaptation and economic adaptation. Social adaptations carried out by farmer community which are utilizing social relations and utilizing kinship and family relationships. Meanwhile, the economic adaptations carried out by farmer community which are opening new land and looking for other jobs. Keywords: Adaptation, Farming Society, Existence, Coal Mining ABSTRAK Penelitian ini berjudul “Adaptasi Masyarakat Petani terhadap Eksistensi Tambang Batubara di Desa Muara Lawai Kecamatan Merapi Timur Kabupaten Lahat”. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui adaptasi masyarakat petani terhadap eksistensi tambang batubara di Desa Muara Lawai Kecamatan Merapi Timur Kabupaten Lahat. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu Teori Adaptasi dari John Bennet. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode penelitian kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif. Penentuan informan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik purposive. Informan dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 11 informan yang terdiri dari 10 informan utama dan 1 informan pendukung. Jenis dan sumber data diperoleh melalui data primer dan data sekunder dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Data yang dikumpulkan kemudian dianalisis menggunakan model analisis Miles dan Huberman yang terdiri dari kondensasi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat dua bentuk adaptasi yang dilakukan masyarakat petani terhadap eksistensi tambang batubara di Desa Muara Lawai, yaitu adaptasi sosial dan adaptasi ekonomi. Adaptasi sosial yang dilakukan masyarakat petani antara lain memanfaatkan relasi sosial dan memanfaatkan hubungan kekerabatan dan kekeluargaan. Sedangkan adaptasi ekonomi yang dilakukan masyarakat petani antara lain dengan membuka lahan baru dan mencari pekerjaan lain. Kata Kunci : Adaptasi, Masyarakat Petani, Eksistensi, Tambang Batubara
