Abstract
Infectious diseases are the main cause of high mortality and disease rates in developing countries such as Indonesia and can be caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Antibacterial is often used in medicine, but continuous use can cause bacteria to become resistant to antibacterials, so it is necessary to look for new antibacterial alternatives. Acacia plant (Acacia mangium Willd.) is one of the plants that contains antibacterial compounds and the presence of endophytic fungi in acacia plants can be used to produce antibacterial. Endophytic fungi are fungi that are able to form colonies in plant tissues and can produce the same bioactive compounds as their hosts. This research was carried out from November 2020 to May 2021, at the Microbiology Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University. This research was conducted to obtain endophytic fungi from the leaves of the Acacia plant (Acacia mangium Willd.) which have potential as antibacterial compounds against E.coli and S.aureus bacteria. The research stages include isolation, purification, cultivation and extraction of endophytic fungi, antibacterial activity test, autobiographical test, characterization and identification of endophytic fungi that produce secondary metabolites that have potential as antibacterial compounds. The conclusion of this research is that 7 isolates of endophytic fungi have been isolated, but only 3 have the potential as antibacterial. The secondary metabolite extracts of isolates FE1 and FE3 contain tannin compounds. The secondary metabolite extract of FE6 isolate contains terpenoid compounds. The FE1 isolate was identified as Fusarium sp. The FE3 isolate was identified as Aspergillus sp, and the FE6 isolate was identified as Acremonium sp.
