Abstract

This research objectivewas to knowtheeffect ofblade rotation variations and material conditions on the chopping process of sugarcane shoots in a modified power thresher machine. This research was conducted from March to April 2021 at the Agricultural Machinery and Workshop Laboratory, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya Campus, SouthSumatra. Themethod used in thisstudy used afactorial randomized block design (RAKF) with two treatment factors, namely blade rotation speed (A) ± 1000 rpm, ± 1100 rpm, and ± 1200 rpm, and material condition (B) after 1 day, after 1 week, and after 2 weeks. This study uses three parameters, namely the uniformity of the counting results (percent), the effective working capacity of the machine (kg/hour), and the energy demand of the count (Kcal/hour).Theresultsofthisstudyindicatethattheconditionofthematerial(B) has a significant effect on the uniformity of the counting results (percent). Treatment (A2B1) is the best treatment for the uniformity of 2 cm to 5 cm chopped results with an average of 32.54%. Treatment (A1B1) is the best treatmentfortheeffectiveworkingcapacityofthechopper,whichis3.12kg/hour. Treatment (A3B2) is the best treatment for the lowest energy requirement of chopping,whichisusedforcountingof0.67Kcal/hour.
