Abstract

This study discusses the survival strategy of rubber farmers during the Covid-19 pandemic, without realizing it during the Covid-19 pandemic resulting in a decline in rubber prices which affected the social life of rubber farmers. The objectives of this study are: (1) How is the income level of rubber farmers against the poverty line during the Covid-19 pandemic in Jerambah Rengas Village, Tulung Selapan District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, (2) What are the survival strategies carried out by smallholder rubber farmers during the Covid-19 pandemic in Jerambah Rengas Village, Tulung Selapan District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, (3) How is the relationship between farmers' income levels and survival strategies carried out by farmers during the Covid-19 pandemic in Jerambah Rengas Village, Tulung Selapan District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. The location of this research was chosen deliberately. The research activity was carried out in April 2021 until it was completed. The research method used in this study is a survey method. The sampling method used in this study was simple random. The number of farmer samples taken were 31 sample farmers and the data collected in this study consisted of primary data and secondary data. The results showed that (1) According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2020 the poverty line per household in Ogan Komering Ilir Regency was Rp375,837/capita/month. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the average income of the sample farmer families in Jerambah Rengas Village, Ogan Komering ilir Regency was Rp721.460/capita/month and showed that it was above the poverty line or categorized as high, where the income of the sample farmers in the study area was above the poverty line by 64.52 percent. (2) The survival strategy carried out by rubber farmers in Jerambah Rengas Village, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency is a passive strategy and a network strategy, namely changes in spending and cash loans, where farmers save on their household needs, especially in consumption activities. Meanwhile, farmers also make cash loans to meet their daily needs, where farmers usually borrow from their families, neighbors, and middlemen. (3) There is a significant relationship between the income level of rubber farmers and the strategies adopted by rubber farmers during the Covid-19 pandemic in Jerambah Rengas Village. The coefficient number is positive, namely 0.376, so that the pattern of the relationship between the two variables is unidirectional, thus it can be interpreted that the survival strategy is increasing, the farmers' income will also increase.
