Abstract

This study aims to find out the profile of environmental literacy ability of junior high school students in Sako Subdistrict, Palembang, South Sumatra who have characteristics in different surrounding environments. This research used descriptive method with survey research type. Research sample determination techniques used Cluser Random Sampling technique. The research samples were conducted in Grade IX in three junior high schools in Sako Subdistrict, Palembang. Data collection techniques were conducted using tests in the form of multiple-choice questions with 64 questions adapted from the Middle Schools Environmental Literacy Survey/MSELS/1 Instruments. The results showed that the percentage of environmental literacy ability of students in Junior High School at Sako Subdistrict Palembang was moderate category with 55% and some students in high category with 45% understanding environmental literacy. This can be seen from the percentage of environmental literacy indicators in Junior High School at Sako Subdistrict with a high category knowledge domain reaching 69%. In the domain Enviroment Affect moderate category reached 72%, the cognitive skill domain the category of medium reached 57%, while in the domain behavior high category reached 57%.  As a result, students in Junior High School at Sako Subdistrict Palembang have reached a moderate level of environmental literacy.
