Abstract

Relations between South and North Korea have always been filled with changing dynamics. First, the relationship between these two countries hated each other from the time of independence at the end of the second world war, until the occurrence of the Korean war. Until 2017, relations between South and North Korea were filled with tension, especially in the DMZ border area. However, this situation will change again. In May 2017, a new South Korean president named Moon Jae-in was elected. President Moon Jae-in comes with a new perspective on North Korea, he intends to replant the sense of friendship between South Korea and North Korea through the vision he initiated, namely the vision of Peaceful Coexistence and Co-prosperity. This study uses Johan Galtung's theory of peace building, moreover the strategy used by President Moon is compatible with Galtung's stages of peace building. This study aims to explain how President Moon Jae-in implements his strategy to achieve the vision of Peaceful Coexistence and Co-prosperity. The result of this research is an analysis of President Moon's strategy to make this wish a success. What things he does, the advantages, disadvantages and potential threats of the strategy he initiated.
