Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease. One of the roles to the occurrence of diabetes mellitus is lifestyle. This study aims to find out the relationship between lifestyle and the incidence of diabetes mellitus in people aged 15-65 years in South Sumatra Province. This study uses secondary data riskesdas 2018 with cross sectional research design with multistage technique. The sample in this study was the entire population of 15-65 years old in south Sumatra who met the inclusion criteria of 14.641 people. Bivariate analysis uses chi-square test and multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression risk factor model. Bivariate analysis shows that there is a relationship between age (P-value=0.000), gender (P-value=0.000), obesity (P-value=0.000), residence (P-value=0.000) and lifestyle (p-value = 0.006) with diabetes mellitus incidence in people aged 15-65 years in South Sumatra Province. The results of the multivariate analysis showed that there is a link between lifestyle and the incidence of diabetes mellitus in people aged 15-65 years in South Sumatra Province (P-value=0.024) after being controlled by a residential variable (95%CI = 4.966 (1,236-19,943)). The results of this study are expected to be the basis for improving healthy lifestyle through increased physical activity, healthy and balanced diet and non-smoking in order to reduce the risk of diabetes mellitus in people aged 15-65 years in South Sumatra Province.
