Abstract

Smoking behavior in adolescents is an example of a health problem. Ajzen and Fishbein in the Theory of Planned Behavior states that behavior is preceded by an intention. This study aims to see the relationship between attitudes, subjective norms, perception of behavioral control with smoking intentions in middle adolescents. This type of research is quantitative-analytic with a cross sectional design using secondary data from the Sriwijaya University Satteks 2020. The number of samples that meet the inclusion criteria are 84 respondents. The analysis used is univariate, bivariate with chi-square test and multivariate using multiple logistic regression test with prediction model. This study shows that the dominant respondent has a high smoking intention. Then there is a significant relationship between smoking intention with subjective norm variable (p<0.0001) and PR value of 4.932 95% confidence level with a range of 1.792 to 13,574 and behavioral control perception variable (p<0.05) with PR value of 1.912 and range CI (95%) from 1.230 to 2.927. The results of multivariate analysis showed that subjective norm variable was the dominant variable influencing smoking intention (PR=45,221; CI=4,787-427,222). This study shows that respondents with subjective norms that support smoking behavior have a 45 times higher chance of forming smoking intentions than respondents with subjective norms that do not support it. It is hoped that schools will actively provide health education about the dangers of smoking to reduce smoking intentions and even prevent smoking behavior in adolescents in the city of Palembang.
