Abstract

As many as 11-40% of pregnant women experience constipation during pregnancy. Consumption of iron supplement regularly can cause stools to become black, hard, and dry in pregnant women, which is one of the risk factors for constipation. This research is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design and uses primary data. Data were obtained through KIA book observations and interviews using a constipation questionnaire on 36 samples of pregnant women in November 2021. The sampling technique was consecutive sampling with univariate and bivariate data analysis, and univariate data presented in tabular form, and data processing was carried out using the chi-square test. The results showed that 19 samples (52.8%) regularly consumed iron supplement and 15 samples (41.7%) were constipated with a significancy p<0.05. There is a significant relationship between the regular consumption of iron supplement and the incidence of constipation in pregnant women.
