Abstract

Background. Dysphagia can lead to some serious complications, such as malnutrition, dehydration, aspiration pneumonia, lung abscess, and death. Difficulty of swallowing is part of the list of problems with the gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and pancreatic systems. Meanwhile, the assessment of swallowing ability has a skill level of 4A which is included in the FK Unsri curriculum in the digestive system learning course as well as the nervous system and sensory system in semesters 4 and 5. Therefore, this study aims to describe the level of knowledge of medical doctor profession education student 2019, faculty of medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya on dysphagia. Method. This type of research uses a descriptive observational method with a research design using a cross sectional study. The tool that used in this research is an online questionnaire via google form which consists of 20 questions. This research was conducted on medical doctor profession education student 2019, faculty of medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya, with consecutive sampling technique. Results. The results of the study from 142 respondents showed that 73 respondents (51.4%) had a low level of knowledge, 61 respondents (43%) had a sufficient level of knowledge, and 8 respondents (5.6%) had a good level of knowledge about dysphagia. Conclusion. Based on the results of this research that has been carried out on 142 samples regarding describe the level of knowledge of medical doctor profession education student 2019, faculty of medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya on dysphagia, it was found that the students had a low level of knowledge about anatomy and physiology of swallowing and dysphagia, about anatomy and physiology of swallowing, and about dysphagia.
