Abstract
This study aims to describe the interest of Indonesia in cooperating with Turkey in the era of President Joko Widodo (2014-2020). Turkey is one of the countries that play an important role in the international arena. Turkey’s involvement in the international stage under the administration of President Erdogan is calculated enough so that this country can show its credibility as one of the countries that can also be influential among other developed countries. Improving bilateral relations between Indonesia and Turkey is considered quite important considering the existence of the Republic of Turkey wich can support the country’s national needs as an effort to increase the country’s foreign exchange which is not small in value, with a population of 83.6 million people/year 2020. And also turkey is one of the advanced countries in terms of the defense and security industry. This research is supported by using the concept of Hans J. Morgenthau, namely the national interest. The research method used by the author is a descriptive qualitative method, which has the aim of sharing a description, elaboration, and validation of a phenomenon under study. A form of descriptive qualitative research whose findings are not obtained by statistical measures or other types of calculations. Data collected by researchers through literature study, online data search. The results of the study show that there are two reasons why Indonesia cooperates with Turkey, namely economic interests and defense interests. There is an economic interest because Indonesia wants to improve the country's economic welfare in relation to other countries. With the form of cooperation, namely infrastructure projects, especially toll road projects, with good transportation routes can support the passage of trade routes between cities and provinces which make the country's economy better. And also the acceleration of the IT-CEPA agreement with the aim of increasing the country's foreign exchange and Indonesia being able to achieve a free market. And there is also a defense interest, a defense interest because Indonesia wants to protect the country and its citizens against threats of physical violence directed from other countries, and externally inspired threats to its government system. With the form of cooperation, namely the manufacture of class 214 submarines and the manufacture of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).
