Abstract

The number of work accidents and occupational diseases is still relatively high every year. The informal sector, in this case workers knockdown is one of the sectors that causes work accidents and occupational diseases. The workers do not comply and rarely use personal protective equipment (PPE) when they are working. Knowledge and attitudes of workers regarding personal protective equipment (PPE) are still relatively low so there is a need for health education regarding personal protective equipment (PPE). This study aims to determine the effect of demonstration method health education on the knowledge and attitudes of workers knockdown on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This researcher is are search Quasi Experimental Design Non-Equivalent Control Group. The sampling technique was a simple random method with a sample of 15 respondents per group. The measuring instrument used is a questionnaire. Analysis using test Marginal Homogeneity and Mc Nemar. The results showed that there was no effect on the level of knowledge (p value 0.096) and attitude (p value 0.388) which were analyzed on the scores pretest and posttest. In the intervention group, the results showed that there was an effect of knowledge level (p value 0.001) and attitude (p value 0.016). Based on the results of this study, it is expected that house workers knockdown use personal protective equipment (PPE) as a necessity and in accordance with the need to prevent occupational diseases and work-related accidents. Business owners pay special attention to workers to provide and remind workers to continue to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) while working.
