Abstract

Backgrounds. Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma is a malignant tumor located in the head and neck originating from epithelial cells of the nasopharynx. The prognosis of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma is primarily determined by early diagnosis. One of the symptoms in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma is an ear disorder. Methods. This research is descriptive observational. The sample used in this research is the medical record of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in November 2019-July 2021. Results. The highest variation in age was in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma aged 41-46 years, as many as 14 study subjects (21.2%). The majority of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients were male, as many as 47 study subjects (71.2%). The main complaint of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma mainly experienced a lump in the neck, namely 31 research subjects (47%). The majority of research subjects were in stage IV nasopharyngeal carcinoma, as many as 31 (47%) study subjects. Hearing loss in the right ear of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients who experienced the most conductive hearing loss and sensorineural hearing loss was 19 study subjects (28.8%), and hearing loss in the left ear nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients had the most conductive hearing loss as many as 27 subjects, research (40.9%). The majority of the right ear patients with stage IV nasopharyngeal carcinoma experienced sensorineural hearing loss, as many as 11 study subjects (35.5%), the majority of the left ear patients with stage IV nasopharyngeal carcinoma had the most conductive hearing loss, as many as 15 study subjects (48.4%) at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Conclusions. The incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang was mainly found at the age of 41-46 years. The majority of patients were male, and the most common chief complaint was a lump in the neck, with the most stage being at stage IV. Hearing loss in the right ear of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma had the most conductive hearing loss and sensorineural hearing loss. For the left ear, patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma had the most conductive hearing loss. The majority of right ear patients with stage IV nasopharyngeal carcinoma had sensorineural hearing loss, and the majority of left ear patients with stage IV nasopharyngeal carcinoma had conductive hearing loss.
