Abstract

Background: Sectio Caesarea (SC) is an operative delivery procedure which plays part as one of the risk factors for postpartum hemorrhage and is an option for pregnant women with COVID-19. The opening of the birth canal through an abdominal wall incision can cause bleeding during labor, thereby allowing postpartum anemia. Low hemoglobin levels after delivery can have a negative impact on both mother and baby. Therefore, this study aims to determine the comparison of hemoglobin levels before and after SC in patients with COVID-19. Methods: This research is an analytic observational study with a cross sectional design. This study uses medical records of obstetric inpatients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in 1 March 2020 – 30 September 2021. The sample of this study amounted to 51 people. Sampling was done by total sampling. The data were analyzed using the paired t test on the SPSS application version 25. Results: From 51 samples in this study, it is found that SC patients with COVID-19 were dominated by patients 20-35 years of age with an average hemoglobin level of 11.2 g/dL before delivery and an average hemoglobin level of 10.3 g/dL after delivery. Analysis using the paired t test showed that the hemoglobin level before SC had a significant difference with the hemoglobin level after SC. Conclusion: There is a significant decrease in hemoglobin levels before and after SC in patients with COVID-19. Keywords: Hemoglobin, Sectio Caesarea (SC), COVID-19
