Abstract
Background: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), etiologic agent of COVID-19, has been observed in respiratory system, but few studies have reported neurologic involvement. Loss of consciousness is one of the neurologic clinical manifestations associated with severe to critical COVID-19 infection. This study aims to determine the characteristics of loss of consciousness patients with COVID-19 in ICU RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin. Methods: This study used a descriptive observational research design with secondary data from medical records of loss of consciousness patients with COVID-19 who were treated in ICU RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin. Results: Out of the 39 patients were dominated by men (59%) and ≥60 years old (38,5%). Mostly with normal body temperature (76,9%), hypertension (59%), tachypnea (82,1%), tachycardia (51,3%), normal oxygen saturation (51,3%), normal hemoglobin (64,1%), leukocytosis (71,8%), normal platelets (59%), lymphopenia (84,6%), neutrophilia (89,7%), increased NLR (89,7%), increased d-dimer (100%), GCS 9-14 (69,2%), positive pupillary reflex (97,4%), and no seizure (94,9%). Mostly did not have a head CT scan (56,4%) and hypertension comorbid (48,8%). Mostly patients died (84.6%) with length of stay <14 days (87,2%). Conclusion: The most common characteristics of loss of consciousness patients with COVID-19 in ICU RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin were male, ≥60 years old, tachypnea, increased d-dimer, GCS 9-14, hypertension comorbid, and death outcome. Keywords: Loss of consciousness, COVID-19, characteristics.
