Abstract
Background: The COVID-19 vaccination was used to reduce the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Vaccines are known as the most economical and effective method to control and prevent infectious diseases. There are many factors that can affect the immune response to vaccination. High body mass index (obesity) and large abdominal circumference (central obesity) can affect the decline in immune function and post-vaccination antibody levels. The purpose of this study was to analyze the association between body mass index (BMI) and abdominal circumference to antibody levels after SARS-CoV-2 second vaccination. Methods: This study is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach. The samples in this study were people who had received the second dose of inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, Sinovac. Research data were collected through direct measurements of body mass index (BMI) and abdominal circumference. Then 3 cc of venous blood was taken to check the level of IgG antibodies against the S1 subunit of the SARS-CoV-2 RBD using the SARS-CoV- 2 IgG Quant kit from Abbot and the Architect™ i1000 immunoassay analyzer using the Chemiluminescent Microparticle Immunoassay (CMIA) method. Results: From the 65 respondents, there were 34 people (52.3%) with low antibody levels and 31 people (47.7%) with high antibody levels. The analysis using Chisquare test in this study showed that body mass index (BMI) (p=0.885) and abdominal circumference (p=0.807) did not have a significant association between body mass index (BMI) and abdominal circumference to antibody levels after SARS-CoV-2 second vaccination. Conclusion: There is no significant association between body mass index (BMI) and abdominal circumference to antibody levels after SARS-CoV-2 second vaccination. Keywords: BMI, abdominal circumference, antibody levels, SARS-CoV-2, inactivated vaccine.
