Abstract
The objectives of this research was to identify the adult morphology and biology of H. varicomis The research was conducted ffom June to Septemberdevelopment, living period of female adult, and the insect fecundity. The immature development comprised ofAND BIOLOGY2005, comprising of observation on immatureegg-to adult development period, percentage of adult parasitoid emergence, and sex ratio. Furthermore, the fluctuation and daily reproduction of H. varicomis werealso observed. In observing the living period of female adult, observation was doneto detect the female adult longevity. The fecundity was indicated by the number ofparasitoid appeared. The host plant used for parasitoid infestation was red beaninfested by the third instar of L. salivae. The adult of H. varicomis was black in colour, tibia was mostly whiteexcept posterior femur and tarsi. The length of female body ranged ffom 1.18 to2.05 mm, while the male body ranged ffom 0.80 to 1.70 mm. The length offemale wings ranged ffom 0.96 to 1.62 mm, while the length of male wings ranged ffom 0.88 to 1.27 mm. Male adult could be recognized ffom its pectinate antennae, while female antennaewas filiform. Furthermore, female adult had ovipositor. The immature development of H. varicomis was 15.68 + 1.23 days.Living pcriod of female adultwas 9.56 + 2.09 days. The fecundity ofH. varicornis was 10.20 + 2.25 eggs. The percentage of successful transformationof parasitoid to become adult was 92.58 + 7.43%. Sex ratio was shown by thepercentage of female adult emerged which more dominant than the male adult(83.23 ± 8.20%). The proportion of alive female adult sharply decreased after 6days. The eggs laid was fluctuated, but eggs were continuously laid. The insecthad k reproduction strategy, because the mortality mostly occurred among old population. The insect was synovigenic because its long life and producing eggs during its whole life.
