Abstract
The objective of the study was to investigate the species of fruit fHes trapped, the number of fruit flies trapped and efectivity period from any dosages of purple basil oil. The research was conducted in the 4 red chilli crops m Tanjung Seteko village, Inderalaya district, Ogan Ilir regency from April to Juii 2007. The experiment was arranged in Randomized Block Design wrth five treatments and four replications. 0.25 ml purple basil oil (A), 0.50 ml purple basil oil (B), 0.75 ml purple basil oil (CX TOO ml purple basil oil (D), 1.25 ml purple basil oil (E). Parameters observed were the species of fruit flies trapped, the number of fruit flies trapped and efectivity period of purple basil oil. The result showed that there were two species of fruit flies, i.e., Bactrocera dorsalis Hendel and Bactrocera umbrosus Fabricius. The highest number of fruit flies trapped i.e., 2,161 individues in average (1.25 ml purple basil oil) and the lowest ie., 132 individues in average (0.25 ml purple basil oil). The longest effectfvity period of purple basil oil i.e., 35 days in average (1.25 ml purple basil oil) and the shortest 8.25 days in average (0.25 ml purple basil oil).
