Abstract
The objectives of the research were to determine the effective time of green basil oil as an attractant source in trapped fruit flies Bactrocera spp. to know species of fruit flies trapped in green basil oil trapping and species of Bactrocera spp. which attack plants.The research was conducted in 5 villages, Inderalaya, Tanjung Seteko, Payakabung, Parit and Bakung from September to November 2006. This research done by survey which used observation method by directly observation on species and number of fruit flies trapped. The parameters used were the effectivewastime of green basil oil trapping, the amount of species of fruit flies trapped andsecondary data including plant surrounding the experimental plants and the controltechnique done by the field owners.The result showed that the effective time of green basil oil trapping 40 days in average. Species of fruit flies trapped by green basil oil were B. dorsalis 6257 individues and B. umbrosus 736 individues. Species of fruit flies emerged in rose apple cultivation were B. dorsalis 8 individues and B. albistrigata 410 individues, where as from papaya and jackfruit there were no fruit flies. There was parasitoid emerged from rose apple reared in laboratory i.e. Psyttalia fletcheri Walker. (Hymenoptera: Braconidae).
